C. WELLS DUAL 8” ENCLOSURE INSTALL

By Todd Zabbia

I am rating this a 3 wrench project because patience and some knowledge of modifications is needed to do this right.

This project Was done on my 2003 ST. It did not have the factory sub, and I wanted a little more base without loosing the ability to fold my rear seats flat. I did not store any thing behind the seats, so this was the perfect place for me to go.

Tools were needed:                 1 #2 Philips screwdriver

                                                1 Small flat screwdriver

1 Hand hacksaw ( small Hole saw type, OR a hacksaw blade by it self with half of it covered in duct tape for cutting in small area)

1 8 mill nut driver or socket and ratchet

1 7 mill nut driver or socket and ratchet

Aprox 6 Feet speaker wire. (RECOMMENDED )

1 Patient helper to take pictures..HAHAHAHAH  Not needed..

First order the enclosure from C.Wells And install you speakers. On my project I used slide on speaker grills. The box does not allow for the clamp style. Next Fold both rear seats down open both access doors and empty out everything including the jack and remove the doors. The doors are removed by lowering the door all the way and then unclipping the inside hinge and sliding it out.

OK, Start to remove the back panel by removing the spring loaded protector pads by using the 7mm driver.

Remove the whole assembly, and place aside. Then Remove the plastic push type fasteners holding the panel on. YOU might need the flat screwdriver to slightly pry them out. There where 2 on the bottom and 4 in the door opening. NOTE: THE TWO FACING UP TOWARD THE FLOOR DO NOT NEED TO BE REMOVED.

Next the top of the panel is clipped on by hidden clips. 2 clips in each corner and 1 in the middle. ( be carefull I pulled too hard and stressed the plastic and now I have a white area on the panel.. )  Pull here:                                                                   CAREFUL!!!

Now remove the Jack mounting plate with the 8mm nut driver… ( I saved mine)

With that out you can test fit the speaker box. At this time you will note it interferes with the bumpy hinge support that the spring loaded doors where mounted to. THIS NEEDS TO BE CUT for the box to fit … IT must remain because the doors and the panel both mount to it..

To make the job easier, I opted to REMOVE THE entire area of plastic rather then try to find the interfearance points 1 at a time.

NOTE: DO NOT CUT OUT THE METAL CLIPS, THEY ARE NEEDED TO MOUNT THE PANEL AND DOORS BACK ON!!!!!!

OK, Got it fitting nice and snug??  NOW remove it To PRE WIRE IT, OTHERWISE you will never get to the drivers side speaker to wire it in later, and might as well do the left side also!!!..  I used 12 Gauge twisted pair monster wire I picked up at a local shop. I ran it neatly ..

Install the wire in to the Cups on the box, Color coded to the way you will wire it to the amp.. ( my amp is under the seat, so all wires lead there as seen in the pics.

Now, Fit the box so the drivers side is under the panel and as far to the drivers side as possible. Looks good don’t it…..

Next, Start to re install the panel in the backward order.. ( NOTE YOU WILL NOTICE THINGS MAY NOT LINE UP PERFECTLY, BUT IT ALL GOES BACK OK!!)

I had to hold the panel tight against the bed while putting in the plastic clips, then they held the panel. ALSO because of the clearance the panel stuck out on the corners, so I simply installed a screw in the panel into the back panel to get it perfectly flush. YOU may not want to do this, but I did.

Ok With every thing but the doors back on, Re install the drivers side door.

THE pass side door requires some mod. YOU CAN LEAVE THEM OFF, but I did not want to.. The pass side storage shelf hits the box, you can trim it off or like I did I just pulled it till it came off completely..

                Before                                                          After

Install both doors, Or skip this step.

Next I found that the jack bracket can be mounted on the pass side further down but I opted just to put the jack back there and found out that the bars for the jack will fit in ON TOP OF THE BOX.. To stop them from rattling during operation I placed duct tape around one bar a couple of wraps, then zip tied them together, YOU could just leave them or tape them together. I also got a set of jumper cables in there also..

Now wire in that amp and stuff and ENJOY your new C.Wells Dual 8” Base Enclosure!!!
